In a world in the throes of probably the biggest digital revolution of our lifetime, cybersecurity has become a priority for individuals, corporates and governments. Scientist Nomonde Sharon Malanda is working on a solution that is expected to address the security concerns.
In the context of the fourth industrial revolution, the emergence of big data, and an ever-increasing dependence on information and communications technologies, Malanda’s work is destined to change the lives of South Africans across all barriers. Through her research, Malanda aims to identify robust strategic controls for mitigating and responding to data breaches in both the public and private sectors. Malanda obtained a Master’s in Cybersecurity from the Instituto De Empresa University in Madrid, Spain, and is working on a Ph.D. in Quantum Communication, focusing on the protection of information channels. She has represented South Africa at conferences on global cybersecurity in China, India, Mauritius, Israel, Spain and Bulgaria.
